Amalgamation Signs With Us!
Amalgamation, an one man project that experiment with the broad genre of ambient/drone. We are excited to announce this signing and we will be releasing the debut album "Qi" sometimes over the summer! Here's a biography written by the man.

"Formed in 2009 by Joshua McMullen, Amalgamation is an experimental ambient/drone/noise project, dedicated to exploring the various facets of sound. In 2010, Amalgamation distributed its first official release: a demo featuring two tracks simply titled Demo 2010, to various record labels, until it was found by the independent label Barren Meadows Recordings, home to such artists as Cephalophore. Amalgamation is currently in the process of being signed to this label, and will hopefully release its first full length CD "Qi" sometime in the summer of 2010. "

Update from Hguols!
Update from the man himself:

"Well, after slaving away a lot of free time between February and March, I've got this sophomore album complete.

Hguols - Celestial Powers Intervened To True Supremacy
8 tracks - 43:52 running time

1- Destined to Find Sanctuary - 4:30
2- I Found the Essence of Darkness - 5:04
3- Within the Grip of Insanity - 4:34
4- All But Life Was Lost - 4:44
5- In This Exchange of Demise - 4:37
6- Celestial Powers Intervened - 7:12

7- My Eyes Have Opened - 4:37
8- To True Supremacy - 8:31

For those of you familiar with my MIDI work, I've done something a little different from Epitome - I'm utilizing soundfonts for a few of the instruments. The album will still be sequenced in a similar fashion, but for example, rather than a GM strings sound, a Campbell's cello is used instead. Rather than a GM distortion guitar, an Ilkka Palmroth's SG Electric Guitar through Zoom GFX-707 Guitar Effect Processor is used. The soundfonts bring not only a different sound, but a more realistic and lifelike approach to this project.

I guess the real meat and potatoes of this post is that the songs in bold in the above tracklist can be listened to at the Hguols myspace page, or at http://www.hguols.com
(though, they'll sound better at the dot com than the myspace streaming)

The CD will be available on Barren Meadows Recordings September / October 2010.
The digital release will be available in a few months.

Any and all question, comments and snide remarks are welcomed!

Thanks to all who are interested! "

Hguols Signed With Us!

We are thrilled to announce the signing of Hguols to Barren Meadows Recordings! Hguols is a one man project by Tom Eversole and it is pure 100% MIDI black metal. The background on the creation of Hguols can be read below:

"The Hguols project actually started back in 2005. It was a solo project, and involved instrumental black metal using live instruments. Acoustic drum tracks were laid and one song was completed, but a house fire ended up destroying the computer with all the work on it.
Due to many personal reasons, Hguols would remain dormant for several years. During its dormancy, I was dealing with a personal turmoil. Addiction.

Regaining sanity, I sought to breathe life into the project once again. I had experimented with MIDI sequencers in the past and contributed some of that music to homebrew games. In 2009, I decided to try to emulate black metal music with MIDI. I did some extensive testing and found a sound formula I really liked.

My decision to construct this music via 100% MIDI is two fold. For one, I could have an excellent sound with excellent production with little to no effort without extensive microphones or sound checks. For two, it has an electronic/devoid of life feeling to it, being ruthlessly precise as well extremely atmospheric utilizing multiple layers in the sequencer. The wall of noise distortion accompanying all the songs, as well as the electronic and sampling elements fits ideally within the modern black metal formula.

Hguols will remain instrumental music. Lyrics in this black metal genre are subject to bias discrimination, and bands that only talk about a certain topic only stick to a certain crowd. I choose not to be a part of that and just utilize only the music aspect. All songs are written on either guitar or piano, and sequenced with the appropriate black metal instruments. The drums are sequenced similar to how I perform on a drum set. Each song takes roughly a week to sequence, after it has been written.

The “Epitome” album is the first of several planned releases. Since the release of the debut album, a new method of sequencing is being utilized. Soundfonts, which are actual instrument recordings, have replaced a few of the GM instruments used in the "Epitome" album. The album will still be sequenced in a similar fashion, but rather than a GM strings sound, a Campbell's cello is used instead. Rather than a GM distortion guitar, an Ilkka Palmroth's SG Electric Guitar through Zoom GFX-707 Guitar Effect Processor is used. The soundfonts bring not only a different sound, but a more realistic and lifelike approach to this project.
The sophomore Hguols album, while in early development, is officially being constructed..."

What Is Going On With Cephalophore?
With "Ghosts" coming out soon, I'm sure some of you guys are wondering what the man behind Cephalophore is up to. Well, here's an update from the mystery man"

" Well my life has changed a bit in the last month or so. I moved into a middle floor apartment which means I have people running around on top of me and people playing extremely loud hip hop below me, it's interesting. Sound-wise, I am looking forward to the upcoming release of "Ghosts" (and hopefully you have all ordered a copy, or multiple copies, it's a collectors item you know). This will be the first real, physical Cephalophore release and I must admit I am very eager to hold it in my hands. Beyond thatI have a few albums in the works. "Folklore" is a collection of folk tunes done in a noisy, droney, feedback-laden way. It includes 'oh death', 'wayfaring stranger', 'red river' and 'streets of laredo'.
Another, tentatively titled "
Peccatoris" has a deep rumbly type sound and an overall more mechanical sound. I am quite happy with both of them. I am also toying with the idea of doing a more pure noise type of release, but who knows if anything will come from that. Anyway, "Ghosts" is coming out soon, you know you want it, I know you want it, everyone knows everyone wants it. So get it and bask in its warm glowing warming glow!"
